Five years ago, the Ridgers had also advanced to the state sectional final, under coach Liam Carr, before losing a heart breaker, at the buzzer, to University, at home, 53-51. Glen Ridge had also advanced to the sectional final in 2018, but came up short, on the road, at Bloomfield Tech.
This time, the Ridgers got over the hump, thanks for a 21-point, four rebound and two assist gem from Bryan Moussako, as well as 12 points and 13 rebounds from Carter Koenig, 10 boards and three assists from Ryan O’Neil, nine rebounds, four points and three blocked shots by Andrew Snyder and Michael Cifelli’s nine points and four rebounds.
“It was a team effort,” said Kennedy, enunciating on the word team. “Our kids trusted each other, we didn’t beat ourselves – and it was one of the best defensive rebounding I have seen from a Glen Ridge basketball team, as a coach and player. We really wanted it.”
