“We are One”: Add another Crown to the Glen Ridge High Athletic Trophy Case, as the Boys’ Basketball Team Wins its First Sectional Crown Since 1988

Five years ago, the Ridgers had also advanced to the state sectional final, under coach Liam Carr, before losing a heart breaker, at the buzzer, to University, at home, 53-51. Glen Ridge had also advanced to the sectional final in 2018, but came up short, on the road, at Bloomfield Tech.

This time, the Ridgers got over the hump, thanks for a 21-point, four rebound and two assist gem from Bryan Moussako, as well as 12 points and 13 rebounds from Carter Koenig, 10 boards and three assists from Ryan O’Neil, nine rebounds, four points and three blocked shots by Andrew Snyder and Michael Cifelli’s nine points and four rebounds.

Glen Ridge boys basketball upsets West Side for first section title since 1988

“We know we’re not the most fun team to watch. We know we don’t make flashy plays, we don’t get put-back dunks, we just play basketball. We’re just basketball players who spend time on our game,” said Koenig, who finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds. “We like to play it how we want to win. “We’re a senior lineup with absolutely no panic coming into this game. We knew that as long as we controlled the tempo we were going to win this game,” Bryan Moussako said. “Nobody thought we were going to win this besides for the 14 guys on our team. We just worked hard and we got it.”

Moussako, who finished with a game-high 21 points, put Glen Ridge (20-7) ahead for good with a spinning left-handed layup to snap a 34-all tie with1:18 left in the third quarter.
